WFLACarby - WeChat App

One tree can’t make a forest. That’s why I created WFLACarby, a playful WeChat mini-program that turns carbon reduction into a joint school adventure — where every small action by students and teachers adds up to a greener future.

From a vague idea and rough framework to an increasingly clear structure and functionality, and through continuous optimization and debugging to the final launch of this mini-program — I spent over three months working closely with my software engineer. I was hands-on with every detail: from the smallest digital units (g, kg, t) and text formatting, chart display scales, to questionnaire and activity designs, carbon reduction calculation logic, second-hand marketplace transaction flows, and admin review permission settings.

 

The process was incredibly meticulous and at times challenging — for example, figuring out how to implement the marketplace’s core functions without exceeding the budget. But seeing my classmates and teachers excitedly engrossed in my WFLACarby, even starting to compete over carbon reduction rankings, filled me with a deep sense of accomplishment and joy. It was all so worth it!

I promote it through my own and my classmates' clubs as well as my class WeChat groups. The number of users of the mini-program has increased from 5 at the beginning of its launch in early July to over 100 in September, and then has grown to around 150 through word-of-mouth among classmates and teachers. The monthly carbon reduction value also increased from the initial 40 kilograms to a peak of 1,370 kilograms in September, and then stabilizes at around 900 kilograms each month.
